Implementing the Web Curriculum in Higher Education: Digital Technologies in the Internal Physical Education Games (JIEF)

This new article explores how the Web Curriculum can be implemented in concrete pedagogical practices in higher education by using digital technologies to design, manage and evaluate a large-scale university sports event.

About the article
The paper “A implementação do Web Currículo em práticas pedagógicas no ensino superior: a utilização de tecnologias digitais na construção dos Jogos Internos de Educação Física (JIEF)” analyzes how the Internal Physical Education Games at UFAL – Campus Arapiraca became a living laboratory for developing future teachers’ digital competence.
Published in the journal Corpoconsciência (v. 29, e20372, 2025), the article is authored by Douglas Henrique Bezerra Santos and Fernando Silvio Cavalcante Pimentel and is available in open access, with versions in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

Focus and objectives
The study examines how the integration of the Web Curriculum and digital technologies supported the planning, communication and documentation of the 4th edition of JIEF, held in 2024.
The main objective is to understand how this integration influences the planning, execution and assessment of a university event and what contributions it offers to initial teacher education in Physical Education.

Digital ecosystem and methodology
From an experiential and qualitative perspective, the research analyzes artifacts such as Instagram posts and stories, Canva designs, Google Drive folders, WhatsApp groups, the Copa Fácil app, an AI-based time calculator, and Microsoft Word and Excel documents produced during the event.
These tools formed an integrated digital ecosystem that enabled multimodal communication, collaborative management, real-time feedback and data-driven decision-making throughout the Games.

Key findings and contributions
The article shows that the JIEF functioned as a powerful experiential laboratory for digital teacher competence, fostering student authorship, collaboration, multimodality and formative assessment in authentic contexts.

It argues that implementing the Web Curriculum in higher education goes beyond simply adding tools; it reconfigures curriculum, evaluation and classroom practices by connecting technologies, content and educational management in a coherent way.
